About Washington Team Handball Association

WASHINGTON STATE TEAM HANDBALL is an association of team handball development in Washington state. Our objective is to lead, develop and promote handball league for Washington state

We are the growth engine for the sport in Washington State. Through our expertise, insight and knowledge, we work with a range of partners to provide the opportunity for anyone to be part of the handball community.

We want that everyone to have the opportunity to ‘be part of the excitement’ of handball.

HOW ARE WE DOING THIS?

FOCUSING ON THE EDUCATION SECTOR

Schools, colleges and universities are perfect environments to introduce handball. Concentrating on this sector helps create a new generation of players who enjoy playing the sport, as well as identifying talented players.

TRAINING AND DEPLOYING A QUALIFIED WORKFORCE

A high-quality workforce is important to ensure participants have a positive experience of playing handball. We work with StreetGames, County Sport Partnerships and sports coach US to develop a workforce that meets the needs of participants in club, community and education settings.

BUILDING A SUSTAINABLE CLUB STRUCTURE

A network of clubs in community and education settings is important to ensure people have opportunities to play handball. This includes offering advice on areas such as governance and funding.

PROVIDING A COMPETITION AND PERFORMANCE PATHWAY

We run and support competitions and tournaments, allowing clubs, and players from school-age upwards to participate in organised activities.

It is important that players can maximise their potential and talented players can progress from grass-roots to international players. To enable this we have developed a talent pathway.

GOVERNANCE, STRATEGY AND IMPACT

It is designed to enable members and stakeholders to better understand:

  • who is involved in the governance of the organisation
  • WTHA aims and objectives for the future
  • WTHA work to this point.

It is also part of Washington Handball’s commitment to meeting the requirements of the Code for Sports Governance.

WTHA is committed to meeting the diversity targets set out in the Code and has amended its Equal Opportunities Policy and Articles of Association to reflect this commitment.

WTHA has adopted, as part of its Memorandum and Articles of Association, a target of a minimum of 30% of each gender on its board and currently exceeds this target. In addition, the board is committed to achieving gender parity and greater diversity within its members including, but not limited to, Black, Asian, other minority ethnic groups and people with disabilities. To support this work, the board is in the process of developing a Diversity Action Plan which will be published on this page once agreed.
